Why Creativity wins in the age of AI
I kind of think this might be a little polarising, but it is something that I wanted to write about. So I did.
On the face of it, it must look crazy launching a business focused on creative writing amid a seismic shift in technology that enables much of what I do to be done with a single key stroke.
Honestly though, I think it is exactly the right time to do it. To ‘take a stand against the bland’ so to speak.
AI can assemble sentences and put words on paper quicker than any human could ever do. But what it can’t do is create any meaning. It can’t artificially create soul or a humanist hook that inspires someone to grow beyond their own expectations. It can’t express frustration or hope and it certainly can’t cry or laugh. It lacks emotion and it lacks empathy.
It is in all those areas where Creative Writers can prove their value. We don’t just put words together according to a set of rules. We write from our hearts and it is this that gives life to ideas, to brands, to organisations and to the people within them.
I hope I’m wrong, but as the use of AI becomes more widespread, I fear we will see a litany of bland, generic writing in every element of our lives.
The posts we see on our socials will all be delivered in that same metronomic tone, the adverts in shop windows (digital or physical) will have the same unemotive hooks, reports and pitch decks will fail to inspire and websites will start to look like they did back in the 90’s (but they’ll probably load faster and you won’t have to ask your mum when you can use the phone line! #IYKYK)
⭐️ Creative writing and those who practice or engage it will stand out in this environment. We will be the differentiators, and our talent will shine brighter than it ever has.
👉 What is the last piece of writing that genuinely inspired you? (I bet it wasn’t AI!)
Thanks for indulging me
